" What's the point of having a weapon if you don't know how to use it?" -- K'rilish
Type II Phaser
Phasers are the most common and standard energy weapons in the arsenal of Starfleet. Phasers fire nadion particle beams. Based on the intensity and field of the beam, a wide variety of effects can be achieved.
The Type II-c phaser is a single-hand operated, handheld personal weapon. It is completely redesigned version of the Type II phaser, with a number of specific improvements. The weapon entered service in 2287 and is the standard sidearm for all Starfleet personnel. It features a variety of fire-modes; light-stun, heavy stun, disrupt (kill) and vaporize. These modes are set using
a selector on the side of the handle.
The Type II phaser, like it's predecessors, consists of a smaller Type I phaser mounted to a boosting battery pack and higher focused emitter, allowing for more precision, more power, and more settings. The Type II-c has a removable power pack, in the form of a clip inserted into the handgrip. The Type I phaser is inserted/removed by locking the upper casing forwards.
Each weapon is individually numbered and issued to personnel, there are also auxiliary stores of weapons kept in secure lockers throughout the ship in case of emergency.

Photon Torpedo

Star Trek's Photon Torpedo: In The Original Series (TOS) the photon torpedo
was just a glowing ball that could have any energy range, later in Star Trek 6
they were a canister of anti-matter. The smallest Photon Torpedo held 1.5 kilos
of anti-matter, but they could be scaled up easily. For easy calculations that
canister looked like it could hold at least 100 kilos. 100 kilos of anti-matter
is 1.8 X 10^19 joule of energy, or very close to a 5 Gigaton bomb.
The largest nuclear bomb ever designed was 100 Megaton and it was never built as
the Russians couldn't figure out a way to safely test it. The blast would level everything within a 60 kilometer radius, and throw the entire atmosphere of that blast zone out into space. It would cause 3rd degree burns out to a radius of 170 kilometers, roughly the size of West Germany. So a Photon Torpedo would have a blast zone of roughly 300 kilometers and if detonated on
the surface, or used the momentum of traveling near the speed of light to penetrate the surface, it would make a crater roughly 30 kilometers deep. In most places that is deep enough to blow off the Earth's crust and expose the mantle.
The Earth's mantle is what the tectonic plates ride on and is made rock that is near melting point so it yields to shockwaves very easily. A 5 Gigaton explosion would send a low velocity compression wave throughout the mantle which would be felt on the surface as earthquakes. This would trigger any unstable regions and start more earthquakes on the edges of the tectonic plate
that was hit.
On the bright side this explosion would hit the area where diamonds are made bringing them to the surface.
That is the damage done by one photon torpedo. Using 10 photon torpedoes on strategic areas across the globe would make for a bad day for the inhabitants of the planet. So as far as having enemy ships coming in and attacking planets destroying bases and cities the scale is just wrong. A single warship could easily take out an entire planet, or at the very least leave it uninhabitable for generations.
Starship Phasers

Phasers are a Federation vessel's primary defense weapon, gathered in a series of high-powered arrays at key locations on the hull. Starship phasers have range of 300,000 kilometers and capable of a 5.1 megawatt burst. By the late 24th century phasers were only effective at sublight speeds for close-range attacks. Control of the integrated phaser system is coordinated from the tactical/security station on the main bridge. The phaser's power output, dispersion beam width, and length of burst can be adjusted. On occasions where the automatic controls are disrupted or damaged, it is possible to target and fire the phasers manually, although this is less precise. Some shield configurations can deflect a phaser beam; an interferometric pulse, for example, can reflect the directed energy away from the target, rendering phasers ineffective. Under normal conditions, however, phasers are a formidable and adaptable defense; for example, the harmonics of the beam can be adjusted to cut through solid rock when needed for rescue missions.
Deflector shields

Shields are an energy field that encompass the entire vessel during hazardous situations. The shields are generated through the grid that covers the upper port and starboard sides of a ship's engineering hull, and it consists of a projected energy barrier whose frequency can be modulated or rotated to maximize its effectiveness against attack. Starfleet shield design is extremely flexible, and can be modified by alien technologies to temporarily strengthen or change the nature of shield harmonics, as well as be extended to protect another starship within the shield bubble. In their normal operating state, shields are highly susceptible to any chroniton-based weapons. They cannot halt the advance of a chroniton torpedo, because it is in a state of temporal flux, although if the exact temporal variance of a weapon is known, the shields can be adapted to produce highly effective temporal shielding.
Ye' Old Borg Buster
![Picture](/uploads/1/6/5/8/16589190/858209.jpg)
A specially modified weapon presented to K'rilish by Chief Keystone in the Bonaventure chapter "The Shape of Things To Come" (see yahoogroups post# 2024). The chemically fired gun utilizing cartridges of compressed gunpower with titanium slugs was a TR-111 stock rifle modified by Chief Keystone. Each spent round was ejected manually by pushing the integrated forestock forward. Upon pulling back the stock a new round was loaded into the firing chamber. The weapon was highly effective against the early Borg drones of the late 23rd century, but was limited to it's supply of ammunition. The weapon was placed in storage by K'rilish upon the Bonaventure's return to Earth and maintains a prominent place within K'rilish's collection. The name of the weapon was a joke by Chief Keystone, a noted weapons-smith who was very proud of his English tradition. He inscribed the name of the weapon in Old English script on the side of the weapon.
K'rilish's Scythe
![Picture](/uploads/1/6/5/8/16589190/2743960.jpg)
A nasty little weapon designed by Caitian farmers to cut the thick stalks of Caitian sugar cane. The history behind K'rilish's weapon has never been divulged as he had possession of it upon entering Starfleet Academy. It is a hand scythe with a spring loaded blade that collapses on several points to make it incredibly compact. The weapon is deployed by a finger activated trigger along with a forceful jerk of a the hand that unfolds the blade. K'rilish keeps this weapon on his personal at all times despite the concern of some of his previous commanding officers and department heads. There is no known account of any Caitian using such weapons, yet another proof that K'rilish is not an average, pacifist loving Caitian.
